Nursing Scholarships

The Lois Jean Roberts Nursing Scholarship Program was established in memory of Lois Jean Roberts, wife of James Roberts, St. Luke’s Foundation Executive Director from 1983 – 1996.

The program is designed to promote and expand opportunities for qualified students to attend and complete their nursing education, specifically for RN and BSN degrees.

The Foundation encourages applicants who are interested in serving the community health needs of diverse populations.

Applications are accepted April 15th through May 20th (application deadline).

Successful scholarship candidates will be notified in writing of the award and the scholarship amount of $1,500 will be awarded with receipt of documentation of enrollment in a qualified nursing program and corresponding classes.

Once a candidate is selected they may renew their scholarship for three additional years by updating their application and providing documentation of continued enrollment in their nursing program. If they switch to another major, the scholarship shall be revoked.

Current scholarship award recipients will be contacted in March or April of each year to determine their eligibility for scholarship renewal for the following year which requires an updated application and official transcript. The number of renewing scholarships will determine the number of new scholarships available for new scholarship applicants in the coming year.

Lois Jean Roberts Nursing Scholarship applicants must:

  • Either reside in Whatcom County or have graduated from a Whatcom County high school.

  • Be accepted into a qualified nursing program at one of the following schools: Whatcom Community College, Bellingham Technical College, Western Washington University or Skagit Valley College.
